Innovative LC-1 no signal to MS2/Megatune

Hey all, Thanks in advance as I'm sure I am missing something silly!

I have traced everything I can think of and all checks out ok. I have an LC-1 working fine to the digital gauge on output 2, and the gauge to output 1, gauge is reading 21.9 (motor has never been fired yet, new LC-1) Mega tune is displaying 7.4. I have selected the LC-1 in mtconfig and also selected it in megatune in the ego control. I also did the "calibrate afr table" and selected the lc-1. No matter what the afr gauge is stuck on 7.4.

Any suggestions? I would really like it to be reading proper before I start it up for the first time!

What's the voltage at the MS connector? I have an LC-1 with DB gauge and didn't have much trouble getting it to work with MS.

it is showing 4.5volts.

gauge on the dash is reading 21.9

bmxarmy,

MegaSquirt only updates the EGO (aka. "O2") readout if it has an active teach signal (because a EGO reading with the engine stopped is essentially meaningless). There is more on this in step 55 here: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/V3assemble.htm#input

So I would get the engine running, and then the EGO will likely update properly.

Lance.

you were right Lance, I got it to start today....its spitting and popping pretty bad though.

As soon as it fired up the EGO started working properly.

Now to figure out why it spits and pops so bad. After idling for about 30 seconds I shut it down and felt the exhaust manifold. (rb25 nissan straight 6) #1 and #6 were cold 2,3,4,5 were warm/hot. It is running edis 6 for ignition. I am just going to start fooling with it now, any suggestions on were to go from here? Obviously I am a noob on this and I am learning as I go! Thanks for all the help already!

ok, It is definitely running on 4 cylinders. I have confirmed spark on #1 and #6 ( the cylinders not running) also verified compression and the piston appears to be "wet" indicating fuel.

i have triple checked my edis 6 wiring, I am quite positive that I have the correct pairs of cylinders on the correct coil. I am guessing it is popping and back firing so bad due to the unburned fuel in #1 and #6?

Some suggestions?

thanks

Just curious.....

What is the firing order on this beast :)

Still cant get 1 and 6 to fire. seems a lot like a timing problem.

152624 firing order.

What method did you use to determine that # 1&6 are firing? If they are firing for sure, then I would suspect those 2 plugs are so badly fouled with fuel that they can not fire. You might try cleaning/changing the plugs.

i pulled the fuel pump fuse and injector fuses, pulled all the plugs and checked each one individually for spark. All of which sparked well.

One other thing i tried was running the edis in limp home mode by disconnecting the saw and pip wires from the relay board and the motor would not start at all. I put them back on, fired it up and then pulled the saw and pip wires, instantly motor died.

Is it possible that my base timing (set by the trigger wheel, missing tooth is exactly six teeth ahead of the vr sensor) I am going to bring the engine to tdc this morning and verify that my missing tooth is in the correct location.

On a lighter side it starts up nice on 4 cylinders, I cant wait to here all 6!

oh yeah, Also did a compression check 145-150psi across the board.

If you remove PIP, the MS will cease to inject. It must have a tach signal to do so. Remove SAW, and it should continue to run but on a fixed ignition timing determined only by the trigger wheel/sensor alignment. So if you've done that by the book, 10 degrees BTDC

Just as an aside - is your EDIS coil marked with the cylinder numbers?

With EDIS 8, if you follow the MS wiring diagram, these ain't correct. The MS diagram swaps the coils compared to Ford. Not that this matters - provided you follow the instructions to the letter, and use the correct plug lead connections, ignoring what's written on the coil.

I don't have an EDIS 6 coil to hand to see if the same thing applies.

thanks trakkies, I am out in the garage now hoping to get this sorted! I followed the ms directions exactly, and triple checked it, It definitely seems like a spark/timing issue. I know I have spark i just think it must be "off" or something, It does seem suspicious that #1 and #6 are sharing a coil and that they are not working, but like I said I have confirmed that they do produce spark.

any other things to check out?

Problem solved!

I had the wrong coil packs to the wrong plugs.

I marked 1, 2, 3 tdc marks and used a timing light to see which plugs were firing then matched them up to the correct cylinder....Problem solved.

thanks for all the help!

Now its seems to be hunting at idle but I will do some research on that next.

Run's better on all 6, huh?

Glad to see you got it going! :yeah!:

me too!!! now were do I go to solve my hunting issue?

Also my wideband goes from one extreme to the next while its "hunting" thanks again!

I would start with the engine fully warmed up (you will tune warm-up later) and begin adjusting the ve table bins in the idle range. That should help with the 'hunting' and smooth out the afr readings at the same time.
