Cold starting

Now winter's here, I'm wondering if I can improve the cold starting on my MS2 V3 and EDIS equipped Rover V8. It does start reliably - but only after more turning over than I'd like. It's more or less the same when hot too. But of course there is less drain on the battery then. I guess at about 5 seconds solid churning before it fires. It then idles and warms up beautifully.
I've tried switching on and off a few times before starting to inject more fuel via the priming pulse - that makes no difference. Does EDIS need a few revolutions before it sorts itself out and starts sparking?

Ya know Dave, that might just be the case, now that you mention it. I do believe that my setup starts more quickly (especially when cold) with MS controlled wasted spark than it did with EDIS8. Having said that, it still seems to take 2-3 seconds (or more), even now. I'm wondering what the guys with the big brains will have to say about how long it takes to find those missing teeth before EDIS (or MS for that matter) makes up it's mind to start.

It would be interesting to know how a car equipped with EDIS8 at the factory behaves - they're not exactly common in the UK so I can't ask over here. I did originally have the MS running fuel only with a dizzy and it wasn't that much better. But that could have been other factors - I've altered the cranking pulses since then.
Very occasionally, if I stop for a short while like say to get petrol, it will start more as I'd hope it should. But not always.
I'll have to do a log of a cold start and see if that shows anything obvious.

As you guys know I just started up with EDIS after having an hei with a 7 pin on the 500 cad motor. The EDIS starts way faster than it did with the HEI? Besides it runs a whole lot better...
One thing that I have found lately on mine and a tbi that I work on is making sure the prime pulse is enough to bleed the injectors of air. I had to turn them up until fuel just became present with the fuel pump pulse and the cold staring improved quite a bit. The default setting was too low and no fuel would be purged even after several cycles of the fuel pump.
