Hey Fellas

Been trying to get my old project car going again after sitting for a while. Last time I started it up (about 1.5 years ago), MS was working perfectly. Today was the first time I've started it in a year. I prepped it, and was expecting to just plug in the old laptop and do a tiny amount of fine tuning.

It started, but was running WAAAAAAY rich. Like, 5.0-1 rich. No change in the data on the MSII computer over the past year. Not sure why that happened. But even more odd is that 1) the RPM gauge doesn't appear to be getting a signal anymore, and 2) on the VE Map, when watching the little dot in TunerStudio or MegaTune, it only utilizes one row of cells, regardless of load. That makes it quite hard to drive. For example (note, not my chart, just trying to make sure my point's getting across), no matter the load, it will only stay on the row below:



I have no idea what's going on - maybe the MSII computer got wet for a bit over the past year? Any ideas?

Ok, check the MAP sensor reading and make sure it is changing as it should.

If there is a vacuum fault I'd expect it to use one of the 'high' map rows. Disconnected will read 100.
So I'd guess at either a faulty sensor or a software corruption. Have you tried re-loading the code? And if that doesn't do it going back to an earlier MSQ file that you know was ok?

In addition to what others have said, you might want to make sure your MAP sensor tubing isn't touching the bottom of the PCB. Some tubing is slightly conductive (especially any tubing that is rubbery and black, it seems), and this can result is false readings if the wrong components are accidentally connected via the tubing. This tended to be more of a problem on the older 2.2 boards (which had the map sensor further from the end of the PCB) rather than the 3.0 boards, but if it was mine I would check in either case.

And of course, as always I would clean the board of any excess residual soldering flux using 99% isopropyl ('rubbing') alcohol.

My experience says that the MAP is disconnected. First time I started to panic and try to re-tune because I did not see were the MAP was disconnected. Second time was on my buddy's rig and was an instant fix...

With a map of 38 kPa I doubt that the map would be disconnected. If it was, the reading should be equivalent to atmospheric pressure don't you think?

Agreed, I was thinking more of the circumstance of "it ran fine before" and was crazy rich. My MAP tube was just barely on so it appeared to be connected but wasn't.
