Driving a coil with MSD

:? I am building an older V8 with a Megasquirt 2-V3. The ignition is a Joe Hunt magnetoe that was converted at the factory to a Pertronics ignition system. It has an internal coil but no magneto. It requires an external resistor. I took out the Pertonics module and am running just the coil in the distributor housing. I want to keep the nastalgic looks of the magneto and will run the MSD 6200 and related parts under the dash. Here's my question: With the MSD 6A 6200 box, will I still be running a resistor to the coil from the MSD box? I don't want to fry the coil. Bill

With an MSD box, when they say the orange and black wires are the only things that should be going to the coil, they mean it. Don't connect the MegaSquirt, your tachometer, a resistor, a ShakeWeight, or anything other than the MSD wires to the coil terminals.

Will I need to use a resistor to the coil if I am running the MSD 6A 6200 unit? Is the resistor nessessary anywhere in this system since no points will be used? Thank you, Bill :?

Thank you so much. Bill

Not if your coil is compatible with the MSD 6.

Thank you. I'll have to contact Joe Hunt and see what it requires. It is inside the mag housing and looks more like a lawn mower coil than one from a car. I don't want to fry since I'm sure it is very expensive. The mag itself cost over $700.00 and that was with the magneto generator removed. Bill
