Number of cylinders a Microsquirt will run

I have yet to find this info. I need to know if the Microsquirt will run a 6 or 8 cylinder engine. I see it will run both 2 and 4 cylinders. If not I will need to run the Megasquirt instead.

My set-up will use the Ford EDIS but the engine will require only 4 injectors.

Thanks in advance.

Tom,

MicroSquirt will run a 6 or 8 cylinder engine, one is running the 2.5L V6 in my Probe at the moment. Fuel will be batch mode, not sequential, though, and you won't be able to run COP coils (you will need a distributor).

Sounds good Lance.

I was going to batch the injectors on this build. But for ignition I have the Ford EDIS 6. From what I've read this will be fine for the 6 cyl. No distributor. Still fine?

Sure, EDIS6 works with MicroSquirt no problem.

Thanks Matt. Should be a couple of months before this engine is running. I'll post the update.

Tom,

Yes, as Matt says, an EDIS appears just like a distributor to MicroSquirt or MegaSquirt. The EDIS module independently takes care of sorting out the sparks to the correct cylinders with information from a VR sensor and a 36-1 wheel. So either MegaSquirt or Microsquirt will work with any of EDIS-4/EDIS-6/EDIS-8.

There is more here: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/EDIS.htm

Still reading the online manuals for the Microsquirt.

Will I need the "access board" or is this something used for a specific form of tuning only.

Thanks,

Tom...

The Access Board was meant to be sort of a relay board for MicroSquirt, but was never mass produced due to limited demand. It's not really needed and is rather bulky.
