I was following the step-by-step guide assembling my MS-II 3.0 board. When I got to the step where I was suppose to insert U1 (MSII DAUGHTERBOARD) I inserted it and soldered it. When I got to the next step it said I was suppose to pry it out...I paniced and read through the rest of the steps and didn't see it reference the daughterboard again, as if it never gets soldered to the board. Is this true? Now I am panicing more. Did I screw up bad? Thanks in advance....

It should be installed with a socket instead of soldered. But if you've already soldered it in, you are more likely to do more damage by desoldering it than by finishing the build leaving it in place.

Thanks for the reply. Are there any issues/problems I will encounter in the future having the board soldered on rather than installed with a socket? I have a nice solder vacuum I could try to use, but if it wont cause me in problems in the future I would rather not try to remove it and possibly screw it up.

Will I run into any issues in the future with it being soldered on vs attached by socket? I can vacuum the solder off if need be, I don't want to attempt and possibly damage the board unless I have too.

It would only be an issue if you have the daughterboard break or wish to upgrade to MS3.

In addition to what Matt has said above..... There may be occasions in which the removal of the MS2 card might facilitate some trouble shooting procedures also. All in all, I wouldn't try to remove it!

If something goes sufficiently wrong that you need to remove the card, look for something called ChipQuik, which is a low-temp solder normally used for lifting surface mount chips.

Thanks a lot for the replies. Although I'm still upset I did this wrong, I am glad it's not catastrophic. Hopefully I wont run into a situation in which it needs removed.
