inconsistant timing

Guys,

I have an ignition software problem. I have a 85 camaro with a 305 engine. Ignition works fine i've got a descent ms2 controlled spark. But i cant get the timing right.

For RPM i'm using 4 magnets on the flywheel and a hall sensor as a pickup, signal is clear in logfiles, hence the descent ...

log of a non starting car

Guys here is a log of my camaro,

I was looking at the trigger+- post and noticed something in the megamanual:

If trigger± counts up, it means the controller is seeing noise, that is extra teeth that don't really exist. It discards these extra teeth signals.

I Just converted to a hall sensor rpm ...

Re: bip373 problem

I have placed one of the magnets on the flywheel about 50 degrees btdc, as I was told by someone who already used this kind of setup. would this mean my trigger offset should be about 50 degrees? (setting it correct with a timing light as soon as the engine runs offcourse)

Re: bip373 problem

Trakkies,

The hall sensor setup gives a clear rpm signal (i dont get my rpm from the distributor, used a pull up circuit indeed). a reversed magnet would just give No signal because the hall sensor triggers only from one side of the magnets.
and yes i use the distributor for now, so i think the ...

Re: bip373 problem

@ trakkies

I have the 4 magnets on the flywheel ( as one guy advised me to do) recently another guy told me to reverse on of the magnets to mark the TDC position, the other guy said it wasn't nessesary. but it sounds logical to reverse one magnet.. can not find this anywhere on the web.

bip373 problem

Guys,

I have 85 camaro, at first i was trying go get it to run on the stock 7 pin HEI, it started but rpm signal issues made me pull out the hei module. I installed a hall sensor rpm pickup using 4 magnets on the flywheel and the bip 373 ignition module. I wired it all as DIY autotune describes ...

HEI 7 pin spark problem

Guys,

my setup is a 1985 camaro with a small blower on top. I use stock parts except for the ms offcoarse. The problem is that the car coughs during cranking but doesn't catch enough to start. tried all different pulse widths and maps from others so i dont think thats the problem.

I am sure my ...

Re: IAC valve

I haven't tested the ms on the jimstim jet, but i managed to retract the needle to the position I want, but after i increase the start value(steps) if i decrease the amount of steps the needle won't extend. only if i switch two wires (the blue wires) I can get the needle to extend with the amount of ...

Re: IAC valve

Made no difference at all, I measured the resistance at the connector of the ms2, both sets of the IAC had about 50 ohms. can i test the IAC functions with the stim?

Thanks matt, I'll try next saturday. if I change that, should the needle take a different position if I change the start(retract) value then???

Re: IAC valve

Of course,

I've posted the tune on which the car almost started, on my last tune i was just trying out all settings regarding the IAC valve. but for the IAC I just want to check if ms is able to move the needle.

Re: IAC valve

Only thing I want to try is to set the needle to a prescribed length/or steps using some settings in Megatune to check if my wiring is correct/ms2 works properly. Anyone suggestions so I can try this next Saturday???

By the way it is the GM IAC with the thread on it. A guy I know said something ...

Guys,

I was troubleshooting wy my car won't start and wanted to check if the IAC valve works, but whatever I put in at the idle control section, the needle didn't retract. I tried the iac always on/moving only/and the 15 min iac, with different start values. rebooted the ms every time. needle didn ...

Re: 305 Blower setup won't start

map reading goes up slightly after it ignites a few bursts due to the blower, but after that it drops again.

I've got a setup now at which the engine ignites, but looks like its not powerful enough to get it running. I got dry spark plugs, if i increase the req_fuel or the pulse width curve a bit ...

Re: 305 Blower setup won't start

I noticed the 320% cranking pulse width at minus 40 centigrate in the manual (http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/MS2-Extra_Tuning_Manual.html), mine is set in msec 11 to be exact, but 320% of my required fuel is no where near 11 msec right?? I'd think i'l seriously flood my engine if i put in 320 ...
