Peugeot/Citroen V6 - 60-2?

Post by bigchrisw »

Hoping someone can shed some light here for me...? :)

Have a Peugeot 306 Cabriolet converted to 3.0 V6 using a 406 Coupe engine. I'm having loads of problems with the standard management, and I've heard good results with people converting to Emerald M3DK and similar ECUs, but my budget doesn't stretch that far so I plan to convert to Megasquirt. I'm pretty familiar with the unit, having carried out a couple of conversions, but all my experience so far has been with Ford engines (all Zetec's in fact) using the factory 36-1 wheel and EDIS to run the sparks.

My question is with regard to the trigger wheel. It seems that a lot of people talk about 60-2 for the older Peugeots - 205, Mi16's, etc - but I've not been able to find out any information with regard to the V6, and don't want to take the engine apart to find out. Can anyone confirm whether the 3.0 V6 24v engine uses the same 60-2 wheel for triggering?

Thanks, Chris

it could also be a 18-1 trigger wheel... i've seen one used on a v6 from a 605... put a scope on the vr sensor and you'll know....

18-1? Nasty! Engine doesn't run at the moment, so I can't scope it! Maybe that's a good excuse to 'fix' the standard management and use it over the summer...? :D

Thanks for the reply though, I'll do some research and see whether the 605 used the same engine as the 406.

I pressume the trigger wheel is in a difficult spot if you can't count the teeth?

Remove the sensor, put in a screwdriver, or even something like a cable tie. Turn over the engine one revolution by hand...ie. turning the crank over....and could the teeth that pass over the screwdriver.

Did something mimilar on my flywheel:)

Hi Kristian

Unfortunately it's not that easy.... by a long way! The 306 engine bay was a bit tight with a 4 cylinder 2.0 in there, and now the 3.0 V6 lives in it's place there is no room to do anything! I'll get underneath and have a proper look, but as far as I could tell the only way to get to the flywheel would be to take the gearbox off. Even if I could see it, there's no way of getting a tool in there to spin the engine over - it would have to be on the starter, which is going to go too fast to count accurately!

under the engine, isn't there a removable plate where you can see part of the flywheel? if you get it on ramps you could possibly measure the teeth there... I'm not sure the toothed wheel is on the flywheel though...

Just had a thought.. Bosch uses a 60-2 wheel as standard, the 18-1 might have been a magneti marelli unit... check the make of the original ecu...

On all the Fiat MM systems I have seen, they also used 60-2. Don't know about other cars though I'm afraid.
