MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. If your question is about troubleshooting, configuration, or tuning, you MUST include your processor type (MS-I or MS-II) and code version in your post. If your question is about PCB assembly or modifications, you must also include the main board version number (1.01, 2.2 or 3.0).
I have a 1982 Honda CM450 motorcycle with an un-programmable and likely failing CDI ignition system. I would love to be able to control the spark on my bike with a MS. From what I have read it seems possible but I am not exactly sure of all the details. The engine is a 2 cylinder with 1 shared ignition coil. I've already replaced the factory coil with a GM DIS (AC Delco D555) and this coil is working with the factory CDI. My plan is to use a MAP sensor for load sensing but I am not sure if the VR sensor in my stator is compatible with the MS. All of the setups I have seen on the main MS site use multi-tooth trigger wheels. I have the complete opposite setup. There is a magnet on the flywheel which passes by a pickup coil on the stator so I would get only 1 pulse every revolution of the crank. Does anyone know if this would work? Anyone know of any other spark-only applications of the MS on carbeurated motorcycles? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
One magnet would give the same sort of tach as points driven off the flywheel, as regards pulses per revolution. So it would certainly work. The snag with only one pulse per revolution is that any change in the timing due to the ignition mapping is going to happen more slowly than with a multi tooth wheel.

Well it certainly wouldn't be slower than it already is ;) Seem like a MS2 w/ v3 board is what I need since it has a direct coil drive and the bike already runs as wasted spark. The only issue is that it seems silly to pay for kits that include all the injector circuits when I only need spark. I wish there was a MS option in the price range as the MegaJolt.
