Secondary air system

Post by gaston »

Not sure if i'm right here..

Is ist possible to support a secondary air system (air pump which blows air in the exhaust to raise up temp and therefore heat up the cat earlier/ faster => reduce exhaust polution in the test cycle). Question is related to a build of an VW Boxer to get EURO 1 or 2 approval (comparabel with the cal driving cycle) with no problems. No OBD or carbon emission control tank/ valve system is needed for an after market installation (in this case VW Type2/T2 with air or waterboxer) - so only EFI with state of the art ignition and wideband Oxy Sensor and catalytic converter - and the right setup ;).

You can use spare port i/o to turn on a relay that controls the air pump. If the logic is simple, like turn it on at startup and leave it on for x seconds, then turn it off. But if the logic is much more complicated, then that would require code changes.
