Injector setup woes... Hardware damage?

Post by pickup76 »

Hi,
I've been running megasquirt 1 v3 board succesfully on a suzuki g13B for a while now and have recently turboed the setup which has nessesitated a change to larger injectors. The standard suzuki injectors are low impeadance and so i've been running resistors and no PWM which worked great. When selecting the new larger capacity injectors i went for some with almost identicle low impeadance to simplify the changeover but have since been having a few problems. I originally struggled to get the car running right with the larger injectors and inline resistors (no PWM) so decided to try running PMW without the resistors incase the resistors where slowing respose time or something funny. Anyway it turned out my problem was not related to the injector change and a mistake i'd made elsewere but unfortunatly durring my dabble with PWM i didnt use the correct settings and i think i've damaged the megasquirt. I have now got the car running great with the resistors and it will start and idle fine but after about 10 mins idling (warming up) it starts to have intermittent drop outs of the fueling on 2 cylinders. Looking at the logs there is no trace of this, the megasquirt definitely doesnt know this is happening. I think its actually the injectors sticking open as i stinks of fuel when it does this even though the wideband reads super lean. After a second of this is recovers back to the correct fueling. It does this throughout the map so not just at idle.
Have i damaged the injector driving cuircuit as i suspect? If so i'm having trouble working out what components i would change, is it just the components highlighted as active flyback in the v3 build manual?

Thanks
Chris

Thanks for the reply lance.

I've been doing a bit more work and couldnt find any problems when following your ideas. So i decided to replace the suggested components and see if that made any difference. Unfortunatly it did not and the engine still behaved the same after the change. I then tried a little PWM on top of the resistors but that didnt help.
I decided after this that i needed to rule out injector damage from the possibles so tried taking a few resistances when running but that didnt show anything. Now i've removed the injectors and returned to the originals. Before i originally fitted the new injectors i checked the impeadance of each (i had 6 but used 4) and they where all the same at 2.6R. The ones that i've just removed from the engine all read 3R but the two that wearnt fitted are still 2.6R....odd. I know its only a small difference but i'm thinking it might be a sign that they have been damaged.
Anyway i reloaded my old msq from when i had the stock injectors expecting it to fire right up and nothing... i cant get it to fire more than a cough. I've checked to make sure its not out of fuel or anything funny and i'm still getting spark but barely any fuel even though the megasuirt thinks it is. I've tried adding more cranking pw and richening the map, even adding reqfuel but nothing will make it start.
Now i'm completely confused. any suggestions on a next move... i'm thinking a scope might be a good one to look into what the megasquirt is doing in more detail.
