Ford Idle Speed Control System

Post by magnetvox »

Hi,

I'm building a megasquirt II PCB 3 to control a Ford CFI/ CPI system from an (Australian) EA Falcon. I'm bolting the CFI onto an old Hillman. It is a pretty basic way of doing EFI, however it is teaching me the basics.

This system used an idle speed control system which is simply a dc motor which pushes out/in a rod which adjusts the opening of the throttle plates, like a carby choke. I've found some detailed info on how it works here:

http://www.ausauto.com/index.php?page=n ... e&aid=1224

My question is, given this isn't a stepper motor, nor a IAC, can I incorporate into into my Megasquirt II system? If I can, how would I do it? Has anyone else done something similar?

My gut feel is that I can't, and I need to remove it and simply set the idle statically with the idle screw. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It might be possible to use half the stepper IAC output to control a DC motor. However, you'd need to write custom code for this as the existing firmware won't handle it.
