do i have to control the IAC ?

Post by jakecolt »

hi ive been running my car for about a month on a fuel only piggy back set up using all stock sensors wiring and injectors and have just finished configuring my megasquirt for ignition control usint the stock coils as well ( thanks to many members of the ms fourms....thank you ) so im nearly ready to plug it in and start having more fun :) but the IAC is holding me up.
i have a ms-1 on a 3.0 board running the extra code, set up in parrellel with the factory ecu so sharing sensors, intercepting the injector and coil feeds and leaving the factory ecu to control the guages lights alternator and immobilisor, im trying to keep every thing standard hardware wise, but the IAC is a 6 wire uni-polar motor so two windings each with a center tap with a positive feed. i can only find a breif referance to this kind of IAC in the megamanual but i could not determin a way to control it, preferably i do not want to replace this as i like the idea of being able to switch ecu's by changing a single plug as i do now because this is my daily driving car.

my question is this can i leave the stock ecu in control of the IAC and contol the timing and fuel with the megasquirt ?

from every thing ive read im pretty sure its gonna be a no but im really hoping there is a way ......if its a no does any one know of any ways of controling this type of IAC

Thanks for you time

Whether you have or don't have an IAC has no impact on what the ecu puts out for fuel control. When the IAC is open more air will flow, but this is picked up by the MAP sensor, and the ecu bases its fueling on that. So as long as the stock ecu is properly controlling the IAC you should be good.
