Cannot identify version or communicate with PC

Post by blownfive »

Hi guys, I’ve got a problem you may be able to help you with.
I’ve recently worked on a car that has been fitted with a Megasquirt ECU.
It’s an Audi five cylinder 20 valve turbo.
I’m unsure as to what it is, but V2.2 is inscribed on the PCB.
I’ve tried without any success to communicate with the ECU.
I’ve just stripped and rebuilt the engine, and I’ve set up the timing as per usual Audi five cylinder ignition. However, I’m not sure if this is correct, and the car is running at about 2000 rpm at idle.
Advancing the ignition timing somewhat does bring down the idle but makes the car very difficult to start.
Unlike the standard system (the hall sender which is built into the distributor) this has five slots as opposed to one.
The car starts instantly and seems to be running quite well, but I would be afraid to drive this car under a load without seeing what values are being read by the ECU.
Any ideas as to why I cannot communicate with the ECU?. I’ve tried several computers, one which has a com port not USB , using both Megatune 2 .25 and Tuner studio MS.
I’ve attached a photograph of the PCB board which in fairness does look rough and ready but it does work. At this point I’m unsure as to whether its fuel will only or spark and fuel.
I plan to bring the car to a local tuner with the four wheel rolling road, but this is pointless if he cannot communicate with the ECU
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated guys.
Thanks!
:D
