1990 Toyota 4Runner 4X4 A340H
Looking into purchasing the PnP 42 pin Denso version of MS. I assumed plug and play was exactly that (besides building and tuning) it looks like I may have an issue with controlling the auto trans...it has it's own dcu as well. Any thoughts?

This one is likely to take a bit of trial and error. I've heard the ECU simply passes along signals to the transmission controller at various throttle opening percentages. This should be possible to replicate, but you'd need to do some testing to find out the exact nature of the signals sent from the ECU to the transmission controller.

Two options - MSGPIO I read can control a A340; other option you can use is to steal a 87-92(? memory fails me now - something like that) Jeep XJ/cherokee with an AW4 (export version of the A340 for Jeep) TCU & harness. Uses a second TPS (separate from the EFI TPS) - and lets you separate transmission from ECU for the toyotas (I'm using this setup in my VW TD into toyota swap).

I ended up putting a 5spd in the truck- hopefully this will free up some parasitic loses and increase reliability.
