fish,

You might want to read these, among other things:

http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mintro.htm#applic
http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/V3assemble.htm

The manual's table of contents is here: http://www.megamanual.com/mtabcon.htm, it will help you find more information.

IMHO, essential is a decent low voltage temperature controlled soldering iron with a 1.5mm (approx) tip, used with 0.7mm 60/40 lead solder. Erskin 309 Multicore is the one I use. Some of the transistor pads are small and close together - and a larger iron and solder will make things more difficult than needed. It really is worth spending a bit on the iron, as a decent one will last a lifetime and be a pleasure to use. A 50 watt one with easily changed tips will also cope with any electrical work around the car, etc. I like Antex, since they are the smallest and most comfortable to use - but this is a personal choice.

Other than that, not much. A decent pair of small side cutters - 4" or so. Good lighting and a comfortable place to work. And plenty time - don't rush things. If you've never made anything like this before practice your soldering on some veroboard or another cheaper kit. Allow two working days to assemble a V3. Double check each component is correct, in the right place and the right way round before soldering.
The good thing is the way the kit is supplied makes it as easy as possible to build. Print off the relevant part of the manual, and tick off each stage as you go.
