Hall effect pickup 3 blade with 3 gaps

Post by whatme33 »

Really need some help. I have a Kia Sorento 3.5 liter V6 engine. The Hall effect pickups are a thin blade piece of metal and 3 metal blades and 3 gap spaces. This ran or runs Kias. The pick up is 3 wires and the metal blade runs in a slot of the pickup. There is 60 degrees metal then 60 degrees open air.
So what I need to know is this type of system usable on any of the megasquirt computers or do I have to change to a different crank angle and cam angle system?
Thanks and I hope this makes sence.

I'm surprised to see something that basic in a more modern vehicle. A 3-0 Hall wheel could be used for basic fuelling, but not for spark. There should be another sensor and another trigger point in there somewhere ...

No, they use a 3-0 on the crank and a 3-0 on the cam. Note that there is 60 degrees in length flat blade and the 60 degrees of length in nothing and is repeated 2 more times. So I suspect they use this configuration because it tells where the crankshaft position is every revolution and then the same on the cam and use a multiplyer on the cam signal so it knows when to fire. There is no distributor because if there was I would use it. Remember this was KIA as it was going under and got bought up by Hyundia.
So anymore great ideas????????

This would either require a custom wheel decoder or cutting the 3 tooth cam wheel down to 1 tooth.

Note - are you sure it's not a 4 tooth cam wheel, like this? I wouldn't be surprised at all if Kia had used a Mitsubishi tooth pattern.
